The dedicated and talented directors, choreographers, singers, musicians and cast have been busy at rehearsals since late August. ‘It’s been intense but rewarding,’ said cast member Aisling ‘when it all comes together you see your hard work coming to fruition into a professional production.’ Rehearsals took place in the gym and on the balcony in the school. ‘We’ve had so much fun, and now there is a huge build up of excitement,’ said Fauve Byrne who plays one of the lead roles. ‘ We’re all pumped up and can’t wait.’ The main leads are played by Jack McEvoy, Kelsey Feeney, Richard Deering, Colin Doran, Fauve Byrne, Katie May Byrne, Molly McGuckin, and Eoin Walsh. Between cast and crew there are more than 120 students involved in the production. A notable feature this year is the contribution of former students Megan McEvoy choreographer and Colm O’Regan, pianist, the lighting technician, Ciaran Doyle, and members of the set construction crew are also past pupils. Roisin Dempsey is Musical Director and Clodagh Cecil is the Director. There are also several members of staff who are so generous with their time: Rosemary Lenihan finance/production; and Frank Duke, along with a number of staff members are involved in stage management and performance. Michael Finn, Principal, plays a principal role in is his first GCS Musical appearance. Eoin Walsh one of the leads pointed out that rehearsals take place this week in Gorey Little Theatre . ‘ The adrenalin rush is kicking in,’ he said. ‘ This will all be worth it.’ Footloose is a heart warming story and is guaranteed to delight audiences, is packed with comedy and has great tracks which the audience will recognise such as ‘I Need a Hero’, ‘Hurts So Good’, and ‘Footloose’ itself, songs which have achieved number one success in the US and worldwide. According to Roisin Dempsey ‘ the stage production has much more impact than the film, as the songs are actually performed and that’s powerful.’
