Good evening, and I hope you are all finding some opportunity to enjoy the fine weather.
Building Update
The roof replacement works are progressing very well thanks to the dry spell that we are enjoying. The Gym has been completely retiled and the skylight, which runs along the entire length of the gym roof, will be fitted during the last week of term.
The roof tiles on the sections on either side of the main school building have also been replaced, with the inner sides being done following the completion of the state exams, as this will require the erection of scaffolding in the quad.
Work on the roof at the front of the school will commence this week and temporary entrance arrangements will be in place.
Despite the school resembling a building site, disruption has been kept to a minimum and the conduct of the students, even with the array of scaffolding and safety fencing, has been excellent.
The second Astro Pitch is almost complete and will be ready for students to use soon.
5th Year Devices
I am aware the sales of the 5th year devices are well underway. I have been informed that the manufacturer has increased the price but the current price is valid until the end of May.
We are in a era of economic uncertainty currently and I would urge parents to try to order the device before the end of May.

Homework Club
This initiative is going well and is open to both 1st and 2nd Years. if your child wishes to attend, please ask them to see me.
GCS Golf Classic
Gorey Community School are running a Golf Classic on Friday May 29th, with over half of the tee times already booked. All details are on the webpage below.
The school is having great success in reaching finals in most sports every year. This continuous success is met with costs of equipment replacement and the ever rising costs of buses to get to matches. Funds raised from the Golf Classic will be used to support sports in the school.
If you are interested in participating, please fill in the below form to enter a team.
The Format is full scramble with 1 drive each per 9 holes. 1/10th of combined handicaps and anyone with no golf handicap will play off 18 for the day.

Awards Week
The school's annual Awards Week will take place during the week of Monday May 18th. This is always a positive, uplifting and joyful week where the students' achievements, both academic and extra curricular, are acknowledged and celebrated.
Each year group has its own dedicated ceremony, with the TY Awards taking place on the Monday evening.
The 6th year Graduation Service is scheduled to take place at 7.30 on Thursday May 21st.
Incoming 1st Year Parents
An information meeting for the parents who have students starting in 1st year in September will take place in the gym on Tuesday May 19th at 7pm.
6th Year Attendance
Please resist the temptation to allow your 6th year son/daughter to self select a reduced timetable. In an school of 1628 students, this arrangement is not feasible and is absolutely not permitted. Ms. McCormack the Year Head, and I, are monitoring attendance. We have already had to sanction a small number of 6th Year students who have engaged in this practice and I would appreciate your support in this.
House Exams
The May Assessments for 1st, 2nd and 5th year students will take place from Tuesday May 26th, with the final day of school being Friday May 29th.
The LC and JC exams for our 3rd and 6th year students begin on Wednesday June 3rd. The timetables are attached.
