Dear Parents,
I hope you all had a pleasant Easter and that the students are enjoying the break.
I have a number of items to bring to your attention.
5th year Devices
As you are aware all 5th year students from September 2026 will be required to have a device. The presentation made to parents earlier in the year, and the Frequently Asked Questions document are on the school website.
I am attaching a guide (below) on how to order the device. The shop is now open for ordering and will remain open until the end of May. The cost can be paid in three interest-free instalments or Gorey credit Union offer an I Pad loan with weekly repayments of €6.All information is contained in the Guide.
Attendance Procedures Reminder
A brief summary of the attendance procedures.
- Send an e mail to 1styearabsences@goreycs.ie or to 2ndyear, 3rdyear etc. before 8.30 on the morning of the absence. On the students’ return to school they are to go to the year head before going to class with an absence note in their journal.
Students leaving for an appointment during the school day.
- Please send absence e mail to the above e mail address before 8.30 on the morning of the appointment and the student will be permitted to swipe out at reception.
If you get an unexpected appointment during the school day please send me an e mail. I will then inform Reception that the student can be collected.
6th year Attendance
In this crucial period leading up to the end of the school year full attendance is essential. 6th year students will not be permitted to attend on a part time basis to go certain classes. Please only give your child an absence note to leave school during the day in the event of an urgent medical appointment.
Swipe cards
All students are expected to swipe in every morning.
If you need to order a replacement card, please contact Reception.
LA/San Francisco Tour
Los Angeles & San Francisco Educational Trip February 2027 - ÀVAILABLE PLACES !!!
Embark on an enriching educational journey through Los Angeles, Hollywood, San Francisco, and beyond!
We are currently seeking expressions of interest for this upcoming tour. If your child is interested in this tour please request the tour details and link from Ms O'Brien (cobrien@goreycs.ie) or Ms Neary (dncareers@goreycs.ie) or by the student messaging the teachers on teams. A place on the trip is subject to being sanctioned by the school management. The cost will be €2,200 (plus €50 for return trip to Dublin airport and tips for buses in America) for 8 days.
China Tour
There are still available places on the above tour which will take place in 2027.
The Geography tour to China is open to current 3rd, TY and 5th Year students and information is available from Ms. Leacy on Teams.

Students’ Coffee Machine
A machine where students can purchase coffee/hot chocolate will be available beside the tuck shop in area 3 following the Easter Holidays. The cost €1.50 and students will be asked to supply their own cups. Payment is by card only.
Homework Club
It is hoped to extend the Homework club to 2nd year students from Monday April 20th. I will send you a sign up form next week.
Building Works
The school is going through some significant improvements over the coming months. During the summer all external doors and windows will be replaced, and over the next two Summers the entire roof will be replaced.
Due to the large scale of the job the roof replacement of the Gym has started now and scaffolding and safety fences have been erected. It is planned that the gym will be back functioning in time for the awards ceremonies and graduation service.
All we need now is some dry weather!!
Uniform
In my previous e mail to you I reminded parents that the school skirt length is expected to reach the knee. Year Head teams will monitor the uniform following the holidays.
Full school uniforms, including the school PE gear and navy jackets are available from Funges.
